Our variety of programs are each rooted in the Funtasia Approach to supplement traditional education. We offer after-school programs, educator training, youth and adult-targeted workshops.
Our approach is a deliberate blend of six learner-centered frameworks and methodologies that support the transformation of growth and comprehensive learning that is initiated through Funtasia’s educational programs for youth and adults. If only one of the above-mentioned frameworks were used without the other, the outcome would not be the same – we could achieve human connection, self-satisfaction, or safety – however, not all three.
SEL is interwoven into Funtasia programs using different strategies which provide learners with opportunities and the vocabulary to express their emotions. We do this by practicing games and activities focused on self-management (breathing and mindfulness techniques), role play, and creating opportunities to share how they feel while giving authentic feedback.
All our children, youth and adult programs are experiential. We use activities where learners face a challenge and need to find solutions to concrete problems and work in a team to achieve the goal.
Each Funtasia education program includes a PBL project cycle. Growth is the learners’ outcome rather than the project or product itself.
We draw Positive Psychology in two main ways; in the relationship with learners and in activity design. With learners, appreciating the participants for what they bring, recognizing the strengths of each individual, and encouraging them to connect with others from the perspective of positivity and opportunity. This practice changes interactions and infuses positive thinking and self-image. It’s the building block of resilience. Activity Design is to maximize the engagement and unfolding of difficulty levels.
All of Funtasia’s programs are based on this belief of focusing on strengths and encouraging learners to stretch their comfort zones and challenging what is possible or what we are used to, often leading to participants being surprised by what they are capable of. We create a safe learning environment before we increase the complexities of activities and the creative risks taken.
The safe environment we build with CEM techniques enables stepping out of the comfort zone and entering a transformative learning zone.
